Across the Ocean: “The Knock” Finds a New Home

13 August 2025

One of my favourite things as an artist is seeing my work out in the world, living in other people’s spaces. Recently, The Knock, a piece based on a real event I witnessed on my own street just a few weeks ago, made a journey halfway around the world. It now hangs in Rhode Island, USA.

This work was a hard one to create. It captures a moment that’s all too real for so many, the day the eviction notice arrives or the debt collector shows up... That knock at the door... That brown paper envelope slipped into your hand, or through the letterbox, that changes everything....

I owe a huge thank you to Nixie, who not only gave The Knock a home, but also shared some deeply thoughtful words about it:

“A moving piece showing the moment that haunts so many, the eviction notice day.
So many of us are one paycheck away from this moment while we judge our homeless and those who are unable to afford groceries, bills, etc.
Thinking of those who received that dreaded slip today with uncertain futures ahead.”

Cheers Nixie, not just for hanging the work, but for speaking about the message behind it. I love knowing that, across an ocean, it’s found a place with someone who understands its weight.
