Ey up, Throwback Thursday again. It's the end-of-week show and tell!
Back to 2012 with this one. Some old concept art that went alongside our Staring Down The Rabbit Hole / Alice track from the Trash Town EP.
Around this period I was doing loads of psychedelic art for the project. Loud colours, warped bodies, glowing textures, everything melting and bleeding into itself. It was meant to feel like the mangled sounds and visuals the mutants would listen to and see after the apocalypse. What’s left when the signal’s broken but still screaming.
The figures here were actually based on the IRL stage props too. An Alice mannequin and our other mannequin, “Bruce”, hauled into venues and blasted under black light, and residents in our flat at the time. Cheap, strange, slightly unsettling. Perfect. Every band needs AI automatons!
That whole idea didn’t stop there either. It ended up mutating into the wider world behind a lot of the art and some of the tracks on 2014’s Acid Burn Alice and The Master Control Program. Same rabbit hole, just deeper, noisier, more grim and burnt out.
