Lockdown days. The world shut down, nowt to do but get lost online.
I were well deep into SCUM back then, a post-apocalyptic survival game, not just playing it but being part of the community round it. What started as just gaming ended up turning into proper creative work. I got commissioned to do artwork, merch, websites and event posters for some of the top servers at the time, Scum Lords and Fully Loaded
This piece is one of the digital photo and game composite artworks I did for Fully Loaded, all red and black, of course. It’s set in one of my favourite spots in the game, the big city. I’ve got strong memories of doing loot runs through there, sometimes solo, sometimes with our 10-strong squad, scrapping about for supplies, watching our backs, dragging what we could back while arguing tactics over voice chat.
Even though we were all stuck indoors, there were some proper good times in there. Plotting against other squads, sitting up late planning runs, talking rubbish with folk from all over the world. I met some genuinely sound people through that game too, and I still play other stuff with a few of them now, and even ended up meeting some IRL.
We were cooped up, but we made the most of it.
